Cato-Meridian Senior Aurelia Eckel Earns National Merit Recognition

Cato-Meridian Junior-Senior High School senior Aurelia Eckel has earned national recognition for her academic performance, receiving the commended student designation in the 2027 National Merit Scholarship Program.
Principal Jennifer Kelly will present Eckel with a letter of commendation on behalf of the school and the National Merit Scholarship Corporation, which oversees the program.
“It is an incredible honor to recognize Aurelia as a commended student in the National Merit Scholarship Program. Her outstanding academic achievement, kindness, humility, and dedication make her an exceptional student with an incredibly bright future,” Kelly said.
Eckel qualified for the honor through her results on the 2025 Preliminary SAT/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test, commonly known as the PSAT/NMSQT. Her performance placed her within the group of 50,000 highest-scoring participants in the 2027 program.
The National Merit Scholarship Corporation is recognizing approximately 34,000 of those participants as commended students. The designation acknowledges their academic promise and is determined using a qualifying score that applies nationwide.
For Eckel, the recognition marks a significant academic accomplishment as she begins her senior year. The Cato-Meridian Central School District is proud to celebrate her achievement and congratulates her on this national honor.
