Cato-Meridian High School Drama Club Brings "Beetlejuice Jr." to Life on Stage

The Cato-Meridian High School Drama Club brought laughter, music and a touch of the strange and unusual to the stage with its production of Beetlejuice Jr., performed March 6-8 in the district auditorium. Featuring music and lyrics by Eddie Perfect, the show delivered a comedic and energetic performance that showcased the talents of students both on stage and behind the scenes.
Senior Everett Cox took on the title role of Beetlejuice, bringing the mischievous character to life with humor and audience interaction.
“My favorite moment from the show is when Beetlejuice is showing how books die,” Cox said. “You’d have to come to the show to see what I mean, but I love when my character breaks the fourth wall and interacts with the audience.”
Cox encouraged the community to experience the show’s unique energy. “People should definitely come see the show. It’s fun and comedic,” he said.
Aurelia Eckel, an 11th grade student who portrayed Delia, said one of the production’s biggest moments involved a memorable stage effect.
“My favorite moment is when Everett comes in on the sandworm,” Eckel said. “A lot of work went into the sandworm, and it’s this big moment that is fun to watch.”
She added that the cast worked hard to make the performance unforgettable. “The show is life changing. You will never see Beetlejuice done like this ever again.”
Younger cast members also played an important role in bringing the production to life. Seventh grader Rylee Garr, who played a mourner and a zombie, said the experience reflected the effort of the entire cast.
“We have put a bunch of hard work into this show,” Garr said.
Behind the scenes, students ensured the production ran smoothly. Philip McIntyre, an 11th grade student responsible for lighting, emphasized the teamwork required to create a successful performance.
“I hope people enjoy the show because it is going to be super cool and fun,” McIntyre said. “I hope people take away that it takes a lot of teamwork to make a show like this happen.”
From the performers on stage to the technical crew behind the scenes, the Cato-Meridian High School Drama Club’s production of Beetlejuice Jr. highlighted the collaboration and dedication of students who worked together to bring the beloved musical to life for the community.
