District Assessment Review

Parent Engagement Plan

The Cayuga-Onondaga BOCES, on behalf of their nine component school districts, including Cato Meridian, has been awarded a Teaching is the Core assessment grant in the amount of $280,110.  This opportunity is possible through New York State‚Äôs Race to the Top allocation and will provide researched-based professional development and direct on-site support to our district.  This is a one year project that has the potential to significantly impact the way we think about assessments and data analysis in our district.

This project seeks to meet two primary outcomes: ensuring teachers and districts have high quality assessments and ensuring they have the capacity to use the assessments to support teaching and learning.  As a participating member in this exciting work, our district will complete an assessment audit, develop an action plan to improve our existing assessment practices, and implement our action plan.

One aspect of this project is a focus on assessment for learning, rather than just assessment of learning. Assessment is an integral part of the teaching and learning process.  We use daily classroom assessment data and state assessment results to help us better program learning activities for your child.  Through our participation in this grant, we are specifically focused on aligning our assessments to the New York Common Core Learning Standards, developing performance based assessments, and developing common interim assessments for grades K-12.

Please check out our website for more information and to see the results of our assessment review and action plan once they are posted.
