Academic Intervention Service Requirement 2013-2014

“The New York State Education Department requires school districts to offer academic intervention services (AIS) to students who perform below designated performance levels. Historically, students in grades three through eight who have scored below proficient on State assessments in English language arts or mathematics have been required to receive AIS. Proficiency standards on the 2012 and the 2013 state assessments, however, cannot be directly compared because the 2012 tests were designed to measure the learning standards established in 2005, which are different than the new Common Core Learning Standards (CCLS) measured on the 2013 tests. To that end, NYSED has provided revised designated performance levels for districts to use in determining which students qualify for AIS. Please see our Districts AIS Plan for a thorough explanation of the process by which the Cato-Meridian Central School determines which students will receive AIS in the 2013-2014 school year.”
